SHOULD I BUY
RECHARGEABLE BATTERY OR D CELL BATTERY SCALES FOR THE MARKET?
Portable scales
are a must for use at the farmers market. That is why battery operated
produce scales are basically the standard choice these days. But what
type of battery should you choose? A rechargeable battery is simple.
You just plug the scale into the outlet and let the scale charge overnight.
Then the scale should work all day long on battery power with no problems.
But eventually rechargeable batteries will lose their capacity over
time and eventually the battery will barely hold any charge at all
and you will have to buy a new battery. You also have to keep up with
the battery charger. If one of those rechargeable batteries goes out
and you're not prepared it could lead to some down time since most
stores do not stock batteries like that. On the flip side, you could
choose a retail scale that just simply takes regular D cell batteries.
If you need a fresh set of batteries it is quite easy to locate a
new set of batteries since you can get those batteries just about
anywhere. The decision is up to you.
Years ago there
was basically one choice, D cell batteries. However, over the last
decade the choice has almost completely flip flopped to all rechargeable
batteries. Do some thinking about which type of battery that you would
prefer and make sure you make a purchase that will work for you. We
offer many of the top brands of scales in the country -- names like
Ohaus, Brecknell, CAS, Rice Lake, and Detecto. Remember, be sure to
buy certified produce scales that are NTEP approved legal for trade
for class three. Remember, we don't recommend looking at the ultra
cheap scales listed on ebay since in most cases they aren't even legal
for trade which could get you in some trouble with the state inspector.
Every now and
then we do see used hanging produce scales on sale but it is pretty
rare to see that. Plus, the majority of customers seem to prefer digital
legal for trade produce scales that
are brand new and include a limited warranty. Antique produce scales
used to be quite expensive too. Small free standing produce scales
for retail establishments are now available too. It used to be that
you really only had a couple of choices when it came to the size of
a legal for trade price calculating scale. However, today there are
lots of sizes to choose from that will hopefully work with your counter
